Our Worship
Your choice to join us in worship to God is a blessing to us. If you have not previously worshipped with the Linary Church, we would like to familiarize you with our service. Our style of worship is simple, patterned after the examples and teachings of the earliest Christians in the Scriptures.
Singing
You will notice our worship in song is without instrumental accompaniment. We promote a participatory style of worship that features a cappella congregational singing. The Bible calls us to be "encouragers of one another" and we believe this style of worship enhances our personal involvement in worship.
Lord's Supper
Following the example of the early church, we celebrate the Lord's Supper every first day of the week (Acts 20:7). Jesus established the practice of sharing the bread and cup with his disciples (Matthew 26, Mark 14, Luke 22) and then instructed Christians to do this in "remembrance of me" (1 Corinthians 11:24-25) so Christians might remember the sacrifice of his body and blood to make a new covenant with God possible for us. The bread...represents Christ's body. The cup...represents His blood that was shed for our forgiveness. The apostle Paul tells us, "For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes." (I Corinthians 11:26) So, we partake of these emblems each week so that we may remember the great selfless sacrifice that Christ made on our behalf.
Offering
You are honored guests! Your presence in our worship assembly is more than we could ever ask of you. The work of the Linary Church is made possible through the power of God at work within us. But work in this world requires monetary exchange. The offering is the opportunity for our members to support the ongoing work of this church in this community as well as around the world through our support of missionary work. As our guest you are welcome, but not expected, to make a contribution, so please do not feel uncomfortable in passing the tray on to the person seated next to you.
Message
The message is the time when the "good news of God's love and Jesus' redemptive life is proclaimed and applied to our lives. We hope you will find it encouraging, relevant, and Bible-based.
Invitation
At the close of each sermon, prayer will be offered for the message that has been delivered. We will then sing an "invitation song. People respond to this invitation in many ways. For some, they respond right where they are, asking God to rekindle the flame within their heart. For others, they have a need to share with an elder or the preacher a personal situation or to celebrate a praise that they wish to praise God for working in their life. Still, others may desire to find out more about the message of hope found in Jesus or to take that initial step of faith and to be baptized. Whatever the need in your life, if God is calling you to respond, this is a time that is given for you to do so in a public manner. If you desire to do so in private, that is also acceptable. Our elders and our ministers are available at your discretion.
